I finished this book not too long ago. I purchased it from The Life of a Single Mom Conference 2016 in Baton Rouge! SIDE NOTE: I highly recommend that conference to any single mom who can make it there! It’s September 21-22 of this year!
Back to the book…! This book was amazing! It challenged my thought process of why I do what I do. Why do I serve in church? Why do I get dressed in the morning? Etc. That book really addressed the matters and concerns of a single woman. If I could give the book a theme scripture it would be:
1 Corinthians 7:34 – “…In the same way, a woman who is no longer married or has never been married can be devoted to the Lord and holy in body and in Spirit…” NLT
It was amazing!!! Jordi Bostock really received insight from the Lord to right this book! She explained what it meant to be devoted to the Lord, holy in body, and holy in Spirit.
I can remember not too long ago I was feeling defeated leaving a meeting that I was invited to. And the enemy kept playing on my mind saying, “See God can’t use you. You’re a single mother. You had a baby out of wedlock. You can’t represent His people.” Rolling my eyes just thinking about the lies of the enemy. So, I called one of my church mothers (Titus 2:4-5) and told her how I was feeling at that moment!
I repeated to her the thoughts I was having and she said, “Baby, stop right there! So what you are a single mother. The Lord has forgiven you and you need to forgive yourself…“ She said more, but I specifically remember her stating those words. And she was right…
Hebrews 8:12 says, “And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.”
A lot of times, we as women hold ourselves in bondage and we keep ourselves from serving God because we are ashamed. We think, “I can’t because I….” or “They won’t accept me because I…”. It is always because I. We hold ourselves hostage because of our own thoughts and insecurities when God has already forgiven us and is ready to move on.
And through this book Jordi Bostock challenges women to accept the grace God has given them and to confidently seek after the purpose they were predestined to fulfill. She challenges women to seek God whole-heartedly by faith and not in predetermined expectation.
This book was beyond powerful and encouraging to women to seek a life that is on purpose!
